1885: Statue of Liberty arrives (dismantled) in NY

Today in 1885, the dismantled Statue of Liberty arrived in NY aboard the French ship Isere.

The 350 pieces were packed in wooden crates (somewhere between 214 - 220 crates). However the pedestal on the island was far from complete (none in the pic too), and had funding issues, so Lady Liberty lay unassembled until April 1886.

Why the sudden interest? In my next time travel book, Sid, the protagonist, visits the Statue of Liberty and travels back in time!

First book: Missing Gems of the Taj Mahal
