When Feathers Appear, Angels Are Near

I've been spending more time than usual on campus this past week, as a bus rider. And on this morning, look what I found in my travels: a feather!

There is an old saying, "When feathers appear, angels are near."

I think of the things that have stressed me or worried me these past few weeks. Here are two biggies: Our water heater went.  And my car might be on its last legs.

Have I been whining? Yes, at least a little bit. (And to anyone who would listen. Sorry about that, Dear World. I promise to be back to my normal Glass-Half-Full kinda self very soon.) But things could have been so much worse.

The water heater could have gone at a time when my husband wasn't around to help, or in winter time, or it could have spewed water all over the floor (and/or done all of that in winter, and then froze and ruined the garage door too).

The car problem, instead of developing in town with my husband present, not 10 minutes from where we live, at low speeds, could have occurred during a much-anticipated Knoebel's amusement park trip with my sisters this week, when I was traveling long distances, at higher speeds, and alone.

I am grateful for things that were not what I wanted, but that could have been much, much worse. So I took a few cold showers. So I rode the bus to work for a while instead of driving my own personal vehicle.

Surely, I am still well blessed. I am grateful for the angels who have been watching over me.

The soundtrack is a favorite Amy Grant tune from the 80s. She was my hero back then, and I still love this song: Angels (Watching Over Me), from 1984.
