If you can't beat them...

Bald Eagle

The first day of the Kirkcudbright Show being open to the public.   Good weather, lots of crowds and a busy stand, what more could you want?

One of the attractions at almost agricultural shows these days are exhibitions of Falconry.  The exhibition at Kirkcudbright was a little different, Ben Potter of Bird of Prey Displays only flies Vultures and Eagles.

Barry as you can see is an American Bald Eagle.  The shot shows him slowing ready to drop on to the wrist.  A captive bred bird he had a very uncertain start to life being bought by an Americophile (is that a word?) and kept in an enclosure and never flown.  Eventually Ben managed to buy him and now he seems to be on top form.
