Bressay Ferry

The Leirna just about to unload her passengers and cars at the Lerwick end of her trip. 10 minute crossing for the ferry that trundles back and forth most of the day.

Many years ago one Sunday my younger son and I headed for a trip on the then ferry and half way across they had an emergency drill requiring all passengers to get a life jacket on. Crew were there to assist and then the captain came along to inspect us all. Sadly my son would probably have drowned as the Captain informed the crew member it was the wrong way round and he would have floated face down!!  Still that's why they have practices.
