Ori-nui

or Stitched Shibori.

Shibori is a range of Japanese techniques used when dyeing fabric. It's best known European equivalent is probably the tie dye t- shirts and dresses of the 60's and 70's.
Shibori is very much in fashion again and I do love the look so I am preparing a piece of cotton for dyeing. It's time consuming as I have to stitch rows of thread then gather them up tightly to create a resist area, which once the fabric is dyed, will create the pattern.

I will probably be relegated to the garage or greenhouse once I get the indigo dye as it looks as if it might be messy. For now I am going to concentrate on getting a few pieces ready.
