One of the commonest of the large moths that you're likely to find in your garden, the Large Yellow Underwing looks more spectacular when its bright hind wings are on display. There's still much to admire in the subtle shades of the forewings though.

This one was buried deep in the graveyard ivy, but was carefully exhumed for a picture.

In the early evening sunshine there were two Holly Blue, two Red Admiral, two Speckled Wood, one Large White, a Ringlet and a Light-brown Apple Moth to keep it company.
