Murals and cityscapes

Up at the crack of dawn this morning to catch an early train to Leeds, to spend the day with Tom, Lucy and Jake.

And a very good day it was, starting with coffee and cake. Then to the Northern Craft Summer Fair (resisted the temptation to buy one of the fabulous screen prints on sale...), followed by a sandwich lunch, after which we walked along the towpath of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to see an exhibition at the Left Bank. It was warm and sunny, and a lovely walk. At Oddy lock is a mural (Blip and extra) painted between 1981 and 1985 by Graeme Willson, called 'Fragments from the post-industrial state'. The other two extras are cityscapes, both showing a contrast of old and new buildings viewed from the towpath.

We walked back by the canal in to the centre of Leeds, and visited three more galleries including the Tetley, where we witnessed some strange and 'interesting' installations! After all that culture (not to mention the walking), Lucy and Jake led us to 'The Reliance', a great pub, for a meal - absolutely delicious. Then it was time to hurry back to the station to catch the last train home, far too early just after 7.00pm.

Looking forward to the next time!
