Ordinary Life

The village of Frigiliana in Andalucia - one of the "white villages" from which I have blipped before - is amongst my favorite places and today it was preparing for its annual "Féria" which celebrates the three faiths which have made the place the tolerant and beautiful community it is - Islam, Judaism and Christianity.

The usual Thursday market in the new market space was cancelled and in its place was the makings of a huge sound stage for a concert tonight. In the streets leading up to and off the old square there were booths in which various craft producers were beginning to lay out their wares in what was billed as a medieval market and throughout the passageways and alleys there were decorations and displays.

But ordinary life was going on too. The sun shone with a fierce brilliance , the barber was hard at work in his shop, motorcycles and delivery vans edged their way through growing crowds and an old lady stood silently in one of the many steep stepped closes as tourists streamed past her.
