Gilbert and Gordon

Recently Oswestry Museum purchased some World War 2 letters sent to Gunner Gilbert Bradley at Park Hall Camp in the town. They were love letters signed G. When the letters arrived it emerged that G was his lover, Infantryman Gordon Bowsher. Homosexuality was illegal then and one of the letters asked Gorgon to destroy his letters which he did not do and they went up for sale after Gilbert's death. 

It said "Do one thing for me in deadly seriousness. I want all my letters destroyed. Please darling do this for me. Til then and forever I worship you."

As part of the Heritage Open Days, people from the town have been invited to write a love letter and post it in the furnace letter box. The ashes will be used to make a diamond which will be made into a commemorative ring to be exhibited in the town's museum. There is more information about the project here.

I wrote mine and received a metal badge as one of the first 200 people to contribute. I'm saving it for an emergency blip.
