Silly Printers

The ‘waste ink absorber’ in Mrs W’s printer finally came up as full, or rather ‘end of life’, which we were expecting and had purchased a replacement ready to put in.

So this afternoon I changed it, after which Mrs W and I spent the best part of the rest of the afternoon trying to re-set the printer’s ‘counter’ so that it would work again.  NO CHANCE!  None of the programs we found on the net worked, and Epson insist that the printer MUST go to a service centre – which would cost nearly as much as a new printer.  And we thought that built in obsolescence was illegal???  They apparently claim that the mechanical parts of the printer will be worn out and about to fail by the time that the waste ink absorber is full (which is measured by counting the number of times it is used).

The most annoying (and silly) thing is that the most economical solution is to purchase the successor to the current printer, especially considering that we have a full set of ink for it, and the new one is fifteen pounds cheaper than the original three years ago (to the week!).  Come to think of it a full pack of ink is nearly the price of the printer!!

Now if that isn’t silly, what is?

Many thanks to Admirer for hosting Silly Saturday.
