Life in Newburgh on Ythan

On January 19th 1942 a Wellington bomber with a crew of 8 airmen took off from RAF Lossiemouth in North East Scotland. Later that day it crashed in bad weather in the hills above Braemar, killing the entire crew.
One of the Pegasus engines was recently recovered and now forms part of a memorial to the men in Braemar village. The photograph shows one of the cylinders of the engine.
