Sgwarnog: In the Field

Protector

Among thirty four statues of past monarchs high on the exterior of Bradford's City Hall, a thirty fifth, the odd one out: Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector (1653-58).  His inclusion is possibly a nod to the fact that Bradford was firmly Parliamentarian in the English Civil War. A tradition carried through to today with Bradford band New Model Army.

It's been a while since I've featured one of these statues given they've been under scaffolding for a couple of years, but I'm slowly working my way through them. My Henry VIII is a favourite. There's a nice site that has the full set if you're curious about how they appear in context.
