View from the Wain Stones

Day 3 of the Cleveland Way, from Osmotherley to Clay Bank. The Way soon turns east to follow the northern edge of the moor. This might be the hardest day of the walk for the series of ascents, if not the longest. The forecast was for rain most of the day, but actually we had just half an hour of rain and about the same amount of drizzle.

The Wain Stones crown the top of the last hill before descending to Clay Bank. They require a slight scramble, easy even for me, but looking daunting for fear that the obvious route isn't the right  one. My extra photo is a panorama from the very top.
