Philanthropy lives

I was pleasantly surprised to see this sign outside a dry cleaner's in Bristol.

It seems the shop is owned by the high street retailer Timpson which  offers a variety of services such as shoe repairs, key-cutting, and photo processing in addition to dry cleaning. The firm is known for its generous staff conditions (pensions, bonuses, holiday homes and birthdays off) and also for providing work experience and jobs to ex-prisoners. The former chief executive John Timpson and his wife have fostered over 80 children and states his personal philosophy to be
 If you treat people well, it is blindingly obvious that they will do a good job.


Kindness of another sort is demonstrated by the image of Sasha, the dog recently adopted by my friend in Bristol. Sasha came to her via a charity that rescues abandoned dogs in Romania and finds them loving  homes in the UK. After two months Sasha has settled well and even copes with the presence of four cats. She's still nervous and wary but it's to be hoped that, treated well, she will learn to trust and relax.  Blindingly obvious or what?
