Natural Bridge

Saturday
This morning we drove 2 1/2 hours down to Red River Gorge in Kentucky, where we had rented a cabin for two nights. Red River Gorge is known in particular for its high concentration of natural arches. We have visited it a couple of times before, but the last time was 10 years ago, when we took my sister, her husband and their adult son. Jen and her husband Jason were also with us on that trip. It was a cool morning, but by the time we got down there - about noon, it was really warming up under blue skies and sunshine. We checked at the rental agency to see if by any chance the cabin was ready, but we were told after 3 pm, so we went to the State Park and enjoyed our picnic, before setting out on the trails. We started near the base of the Skylift (chairlift) and hiked up to Natural Bridge shown in my blip, we then used a combination of other trails to make a loop of 5-6 miles. Natural Bridge has a span of 78 feet and is 65 feet high, and is wide enough to walk across comfortably. There is a wonderful view from the top across the forest canopy and towards another cliff top Point, called Lookout Point. We then picked up the keys and found our cabin, high up on a wooded hillside. I fixed us some chili and a salad for dinner, then we played some Boggle and relaxed in the hot tub before bed
