The Edge of the Wold

Orange Piel

In this view from Jack Scout, if viewed large, it is just possible to make out the crenellated profile of Piel Castle, the 14th Century castle on Piel Island at the end of the Furness Peninsula. The sun was just dropping out of a narrow band of cloud, and seen from my vantage point, actually set directly behind the castle. This means that for the next few months, sunsets seen from here will be in Morecambe Bay unobstructed by land.

I hadn't expected to see the sunset, since although it had been a bright clear day, there was a cloud bank sitting out in the Irish Sea to the south of this shot.

It's been a good day all round. After a couple of days when I was very tired and depleted, my energy came back, and I enjoyed my three walks with Gus. It was particularly good to have a stroll from Jack Scout to Jenny Brown's Point looking into Morecambe Bay as the sun was setting.
