Pawpaw research

Our local greengrocer sells pawpaws, papayas, at the weekend and we quite often treat ourselves. He stocks the large ones so we make them last two breakfasts. They are delicious. I looked at the label on this one, wondering from which far off land it had been flown. It said "Papaya Formosa" and that set me wondering - could it really have come from that island formerly called Formosa? Google to the rescue, and I discovered that Formosa is a variety of pawpaw grown in North-east Brazil. Papaya is the Spanish name, pawpaw the English name.
