The long bridge / Die lange Brücke

I've spent the last few days continuing my exploration of pinhole photography, and grabbing the chance to get out and make some images while the weather is good and the conditions are right. This shot was made on the way across to the Ardeer.

Once an island, the Ardeer peninsula is now better known as the site of the ICI/Nobel works, a vast industrial complex which at its height employed 13,000 people in the largest explosives factory in the world.

Today the site is mostly abandoned, a ghost town populated by ruined bunkers, old railway lines, and roe deer.

Accessing the site requires walking across the abandoned munition railway bridge in the image above. It's an impressive structure which stretches for several hundred meters across the River Garnock, and is now in a rather dilapidated condition. It made an interesting setting for another one of my lone figure images, and for once I thought I should be the man in the shot.

About the image:

Shot on a home made 6x9 pinhole camera, Fuji Acros 120 film, 1 second exposure
