The mouth of the Tyne...

...from the High Light...
The tall white building is the Low Light - at one time ships coming into the Tyne lined the two up to find the deep water channel. Beyond are the piers and lighthouses of Tynemouth (left) and South Shields (right).
The North Pier at Tynemouth was open this morning so we walked to the end - I blipped it when it was shut last month.

Tynemouth Pier extends 900 metres out to sea and the walk to the pier lighthouse is rewarded with some magnificent views of the river entrance and back towards Tynemouth Priory & Castle.
The pier is a Grade II Listed building and dates back to Victorian times when its construction was a major feat of engineering.

For the Community Architecture challenge this week - and the red things for Flower Friday too!
