Gibson House, 1851

Fort York., Spadina House, and now Gibson House. It is a splendid upscale farmhouse made with bricks from the clay in the fields that surrounded the house when it was built in 1851. It was home to David Gibson and his family. He emigrated from Scotland to Canada and later became a Lieutenant to William Lyon Mackenzie: Publisher, newsman, Toronto's first mayor, and leader of the failed Upper Canada Rebellion of 1867.

I have never visited this historic home before so I took advantage of the free admission all month (and at various Toronto Museums). Mackenzie Financial Investments is footing the bill as their contribution to Canada 150 celebrations (and the firm's 50th).
