The streets were full of shoppers and gawkers, talkers and power walkers. Muggers and chuggers, beggars and jugglers. And old ladies on bikes with baskets. A beautiful woman playing a battered cello - a man in a suit playing jazz guitar. Girls taking turns to take their time taking each other's pictures, groups of boys laughing at the tops of their breaking voices.

And policemen with guns.
