Beacon

In the past, news of invasion or the death of a king could be transmitted by a series of beacons, each beacon's lighting being triggered by the sighting of the previous one.

What we are seeing now is an invasion whose progress is mapped by colonies blinking out of existence. One by one. Getting closer to Earth.
