Library from below
It has been quite a busy day today given the fact that it was supposed to be my day off.
I was up and down for breakfast relatively early then I came back to my room and worked on a journal article review. I spent quite a while on this (all morning) and it was then time to meet one of the Abo Akademi PhD students for some sight seeing.
We took a trip to Turku City Library first of all where I took this blip (from the door). Anu showed me around the old and new parts of the library and it makes you realise how many people in Turku use this facility - it was packed! We then took a trip to the Christmas market and saw what was on offer. There was a lot of food luxuries, handmade items and drinks and Anu was kind enough to explain to me what things were and where they originate from. It was nice to have a bit of a tour and know what is going on :-)
We decided to end our wander around with coffee and cake in a local café. One thing that is good here is the coffee and I will not like having to go back to Scotland and drink the coffee there. I might try and buy some tomorrow to bring home! It was nice to have another student to talk to and we ended up talking about our PhD submissions as the process is very different in Finland to Scotland. I think I will stick with my process though... its a bit less public! ;-)
My evening has been spent working on my report for the funding body who gave me money to come to Finland. I can only complete part of the report as I need to include the findings and practical recommendations in this but at least I will be able to get most of it done before I leave. I have a to-do list a mile long to get through!!
My mission for tomorrow is part work and part 'be a tourist!'.
