Liturgical snowflakes

I love this crazy photo of the east wall of Holy Trinity Dunoon this evening at the end of the carol service. The tall tree destined for the church in time for the service is apparently still halfway up a hillside which was too icy to allow for said tree to be brought safely out, so in the absence of the festive illumination provided by same, our wonderfully inventive Rectory team (good name for Rector and Mrs Rector on these occasions) came up with these projected snowflakes. They were amazingly effective; before it got dark outside they gave the impression of a great cloud of incense rising above the altar, but as the darkness deepened they showed for what they were.

Our choir sang some solo carols, opening with a performance of Advent Song whose words I wrote in 2005; later Mr PB set them to music, wonderfully evocative music. It gave me a great thrill to hear them sung again, especially in this context. The whole afternoon was the culmination of a great deal of work, rewarded with a full church and a real sense of expectation.

I think I'm very lucky.
