Now, as I see it......

New Year's Eve

What is it about New Year's Eve?

- It's lying in bed wishing you could stay awake until midnight because it sounds like everyone else is having fun
- It's getting embarrassed by your Dad because he's a bit tiddly and is putting your pop records on the Dansette and laughing a bit louder than he should
- It's the 'White Heather Club' on TV with Andy Stewart singing 'Donald, where's your troosers'
- It's sneaking a kiss from that girl you fancied at school but were too scared to ask out
- It's going outside with the men at five to twelve, waiting for all the ships in the dock to blow their horns for midnight and first footing back into the house
- It's waking up on the floor at 5am to find your friends are still playing cards and 'Son of my Father' by Chicory Tip is still playing on repeat on the record player after three hours
- It's being embarrassed because your Mum and Dad came home early from their party and caught you.... Hmm.  Better stop that one there.
- It's having a cheap night with friends because you spent all you had on the wedding and honeymoon
- It's getting a phone call during the party to say your Mum had a stroke
- It's partying with the new friends you made after your divorce
- It's spending a while on the phone because you can't spend it with your fiancée
- It's wondering why you're tiddly when the friends you're at the party with thought it was a good idea to make a jug of Margheritas in the hotel room first
- It's having a nice meal at home with friends and seeing in the New Year with a whisky
- It's watching the celebrations on TV and going to bed just after midnight
- It's lying in bed wishing you could stay awake until midnight because it sounds like everyone else is having fun

Funny how things come round again.  My New Year's Eve will no doubt involve one of these; I'll let you guess which.  Whatever New Year's Eve is to you, I hope you have a good one, and an excellent 2018!
