Squally Snow Showers

3.6C with heavy snow/sleet/hail squally showers. Wind W/NW/WSW to 34 mph with gusts to 56 mph.
One huge peal of thunder this morning, during which the electricity flickered. Thundersnow apparently.

We have two conifers at one side of out small garden and a Hawthorn which has become overgrown and leans over out neighbours garden. Well, we did have. Late last year we asked a tree surgeon to come and trim the Hawthorn and remove the conifers and he agreed to do the job but advised us to check whether we were in a tree conservation area. Neither we nor he thought we would be but there are such areas like that in town ... and of course it turned out we are in one. We applied for and got planning permission for the work. That took a few weeks to arrive. We phoned the tree surgeon on Monday and to my surprise he said he had cancelled a job today due to the snow forecast and he would try to come and do our work today. Despite the gales and the squalls he has been out there all day and the work is done. Hawthorn reduced in height and the conifers removed and rubbish all taken away. Brilliant. It opens up the garden so we can do something with it, and the worry of the Hawthorn breaking in a gale and falling on our neighbour's hut (or one of their huts) is gone.

Fergus and I went for a walk after lunch. We went round to the harbour then carried on along Hall Street and along the shore side of the park. We got caught in a hail/snow shower but it wasn't as bad as being out in rain. Just very cold in the wind. Fergus had his coat on so he was fine. He met two Greyhounds and was quite happy. Waggy tails all round We came home along the street side of the park then through town passing the town hall and the bookshop (open).
