in the country

In my quest to explore the natural spaces of Uckfield, I went to Boothland Wood to the south of the town. It's only a small wood, besieged by housing developments and roads, but has some lovely old oaks and other native trees. The bluebell shoots were just poking through and on the border between wood and farmland, hazel catkins were blowing in the breeze. I sat on a stile for a while and listened to the birdsong -  saw robins, blackbirds, long tailed and great tits, a greater spotted woodpecker and jays.

This afternoon we went to Lewes and met my sister when she came out of work. Tonight my brother and nephew are coming up for a meal.

Tomorrow it's farewell to Sussex, hello to London Town :-)
