Venice - the final day

Most photographers come to Venice in the middle of winter to photograph reflections from the flooded piazzas and the moody scenes caused by the fog. There has been no flooding at all but today we had such a dense fog, it was quite thrilling to see, you could almost smell and taste it! Another early start this morning meant we were getting the best of San Marco Piazza in the thick fog, along with some other photographers. I had to blip one of these foggy scenes and have also included an extra of the ghostly figures of people walking through the fog.

After breakfast we packed up and checked out of our rooms but left our bags at the hotel and we then set off to explore a very misty Venice. We met someone who was dressed up in her carnival outfit and happy to pose for us (see extra). We explored the quieter canals photographing gondolas coming out of the misty scenes. We walked a far distance today but managed to find a pleasant restaurant for lunch. We were surprised to find Venice very reasonable and well priced, as long as you stay away from the main tourist spots.

We eventually made our way back to our hotel where a water taxi was coming to collect us to take us to the airport. However, due to the thick fog they could not get to the airport and so took us to Roma where we caught a normal taxi out to the airport.

It has been a wonderful 5 days photographing Venice. Although it was cold we were lucky to have no rain and overall we had a good mix of weather. The group were great, I met such wonderful like minded people. Sadly it has come to an end - although I am going to Northumberland with Lee Frost (the workshop leader) in March for 2 days so I have that to look forward to. I am now home and it is very late - I have not even had a chance to look at my photos from today but just quickly uploaded this random choice. I feel very tired and feel like I need to sleep for a week to recover. We walked so much every day and carrying my heavy camera bag on my bag all day has caused me to feel very sore.
