Curious Yellow

A sparkling early afternoon at Fishers Green as can be seen in my image of a great crested grebe in extras. I was keeping a close eye on these birds as I'm hoping to capture their 'penguin' courting dance again this year. I only saw singletons today.

I met a bird ringer near the Bittern Hide who told me that that the grebes sometimes display in a nearby stretch of the river. No grebes today but a lovely little egret. Love the way its yellow feet match the Xanthoria lichen.
Egrets stir up mud with their feet at the water's edge to release their prey. It is thought that the yellow feet show up better in the dark water and aid the process.
