Day 055/18. The little pink ferry.

This little pink ferry runs a 1/4 mile service across the River Hamble from Hamble to Warsash. Carrying cyclists, dogs and pedestrians it has been operating much longer than you might think.
No-one really knows when the ferry service first started, but local research has dated it back to at least 1493, well over 500 years ago.
The ferry has always carried a maximum of 12 passengers who were originally taken across the river by a ferryman in a small rowing boat, sometimes with their horse swimming along behind!
The extra picture shows the extensive facilities of the terminal building on the Warsash side.
