Working Woman

The Community Challenge for International Women's Day got me to thinking, and looking, at the myriad of women hold here in Zihuatanejo. It has long been said that our town name means "place of women". This is true in the workplace as women hold a wide variety of jobs here. Many of them revolve around retail sales, as is true in other countries, in both traditional environments like above and non-traditional places such as the beach. Regardless of the retail location, most every woman worker starts the day by sweeping as this young lady is doing here. Something about living in a beach community makes that a daily necessity for either woman or man. After this sweeping chore is finished, she will bring out some merchandise for display, then settle in for a long day of work in her hot, dark shop.
