Anemone blanda

I was up early to carry out the first breeding bird transect at Thorpe Wood and then spent the rest of the day at home, out in the spring sunshine, weeding and tidying a few small parts of the garden. It felt really warm in the sun and the dunnocks and robins were loudly proclaiming their territorial boundaries. The daffodils have come into flower well since the snow finally melted, and the first Anemone blanda have opened. I even saw my first hairy-footed flower bee of the year.

In the evening we all went to the Grain Barge for a Chinese meal to celebrate the imminent birthday of Lizzy's mum. It was a very convivial evening, and the quality (and quantity) of the food was excellent. We were allowed decent breaks between the courses which meant that, rather surprisingly, very little was wasted - a fun way to end the weekend.
