Canal de La Robine

We went to Narbonne this evening to see alien electroacoustic musician Paul Mogador, otherwise knowns as Mrooooo. B was supposed to come too, but she had a stinking cold, so after a quick drink at her place we dashed into town for something to eat and then walked along the canal to the Entresort, a tiny venue that we haven't yet visited despite frequently intending to for the past ten years. We arrived just in time and found ourselves sitting in the front row, for some reason spurned by everyone else, so we were just a few feet from the "stage".

It was an entertaining show; Paul/Mrooo plays the ghembri (a three-stringed instrument made from tree trunk and camel hide), the ney ( reed flute from Turkey), and does Mongol chanting. He also has a lot of foot-operated electronic gadgetry for making extra noises. The atmosphere was great too, with the audience so close. There are clearly many regulars, who enjoyed joining in with whoops, wolf howls, and "Mrooooooos". As the theatre has just re-opened after a break of a few months, our hosts offered champagne afterwards, but we needed to be up early, so we skipped the kind offer.

Still backblipping ...
