Embroidered brooches

What a lovely sunny day.

I was at home all morning, putting the finishing touches to the presentation I'll be giving at Durham Camera Club next Thursday evening. The images had to be ready to be sent off this weekend. I have a 15 minute slot and I'm going to talk about the way I photograph people and make images with them.

It was the Embroiderers' Guild in Hexham this afternoon. I took Mum there and left her to join in a workshop making brooches. When I returned, less than 2 hours later, some members had made one or even two brooches. I took a few photographs and have to admit that I was taken by these two lovely corsages and mesmerised by the nails. "How does she manage to sew?" I mused to myself.

The extra is another member who has nearly finished her brooch. Since she was wearing black/white/grey checks and the brooch was black and white (with a bit or red), I decided to create a mono image.

Tonight it was the Hexham Chamber Music Society. We heard the Aurea String Quartet play an early Beethoven quartet, then the Three Idylls by Frank Bridge. I loved the Bridge and don't think I'd heard the pieces before. In the second half, it was the great Schubert String Quintet with Nick Trygstad on first 'cello. Sublime music.
