Sgwarnog: In the Field

Pomp

City seem to have finally remembered how to play football after three dreadful months that have punctured aspirations for the season.

This was the first of three consecutive Tuesday night home games, catching up from all the waterlogged pitch postponements. Portsmouth were the visitors; after promotion from League Two they find themselves on the fringes of the play-offs.

It was a very thin home crowd, although apparently not so thin as last Thursday nights game against Shrewsbury which I'd missed when down in Wales. A lot of the empty seats will be the youngsters who, like mine, can't come out on a school night. Some will be people disenchanted by the direction that the season has taken, but tonight they missed a treat.

An early goal seemed to settle City and they were the better team for the first half. Pompey grew into the game in the second period and equalised through a deflected long range effort on the hour. We feared the worst, but City showed some reslience and took the lead again ten minutes later and sealed only their second win in sixteen games with another in added time.

The Bantams may not be back to their pomp, but a few more games like this will restore a little respect ahead of an inevitable team rebuild over the summer.
