Castle Revieren

Castle Rivieren or castle Revieren was already mentioned in 1364, when it was founded by Catharina van Rivieren, prioress of the monastery Sint-Gerlach in Houthem. The original function of the building was a monastery. The current castle dates from the early 18th century.

Castle Rivieren came into being in 1910 by Hedwig Thekla Laura Freiin von Brewer von Fürth, Lady of Rivieren (1885-1965) with Oscar Jean Baptiste Réné Joseph Marie Count de Marchant et d'Ansembourg (1882-1961) in possession of the family De Marchant et d'Ansembourg, in which family it still is. It has the legal status of an estate. A first bridge over a canal leads to U-shaped castle farm. The castle itself is a bit aside and was previously only accessible via a second drawbridge; nowadays it is easier to access. The farm is used for agricultural purposes. The site is open to the public. For example, there are trout ponds at the castle, where you can fish.
