A walk in the wet woods

In all the 40+ (eek!) years I've been coming to Orkney I've never walked in Binscarth Woods .. until today. We managed to pick a morning of stinging rain which was a bit miserable to begin with, but once actually in the woods the difference was unbelievable! This stand of mostly sycamore is 150+yrs old and the biggest in Orkney. Lining the track were swathes of wild garlic and occasionally Celandine (where it could actually force it's way through). We passed a little lamb daubed with the number 1 so I'm guessing that was the first of this year's batch. On up to Wasdale and a look at its two crannogs before turning smartly round and back down the track; although the rain had thankfully stopped the wind was still biting.

An excellent lunch at the Waterside Cafe in Finstown and then into Kirkwall to order scalpings for the track. Fingers crossed we can get the lorry up.

Shattered when we got back - too much Air! And casual golf at South Ron this evening. A lovely bath I think ...
