Calne (Sunday 6th February 2018)

The other day I came across a picture on Facebook of a part of Calne I didn't know. Someone asked where it was and was told it was Newbury Avenue in the Lansdowne Park Estate. It showed a wide path with bench seats along it and lines of trees all in glorious blossom.

Lansdowne Park begins on the other side of the A4 from my cottage, and I have walked along stretches of Newbury Avenue before , so I set off this afternoon to explore all of it and find the blossom. Having now done so, as well as all the areas adjacent to it, I can say I never found the scene from the photograph, or any rows of trees in blossom, though there were some in people's front gardens. The blip was taken on a rather pleasant footpath that lies inbetween Newbury Avenue and the Calne northern ring road.

The Extra was taken in Curzon Park just before I reached home. I'd set out to photograph blossom - mission accomplished.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Little Richard - Greenwood Mississippi (recorded 11 March 1970, FAME Studios, Muscle Shoals AL,)
When Little Richard took over Rick Hall's studio with members of his own band and the house band, The Swampers, for a "comeback" album the first song they cut was this terrific swampy piece, Greenwood Mississippi, written by his guitarists Travis Wammack and Junior Lowe and described by Wammack as a cross between Mr Penniman himself and the Creedence Clearwater Revival. Tom Jones happened to be in the studio at the time Little Richard added his vocal and went away to record his own version of the song. Travis Wammack also released his own version in 1975. My copy of the album, The Rill Thing, arrived on Friday and was played this evening.
