Truly Blippin' Marvelous

Solo & Soli

A bland documentary photo - but it comes with a story. But first a  question: Who went to Saturday morning flicks? A sing-song, cartoons, serial, and a feature. Sometimes us kids were invited on stage to win prizes. I rushed down (from the circle) to sing this song which I'd learnt listening to Singing Together  with William Appleby at school. The cinema had an organist who attempted to accompany as he did not know it . . . I remember most of the other kids, mostly girls, sang popular songs of the time the most repeated one being Sailor recorded by Petula Clark so that makes it 1961-2. What did I win? A pair of boxing gloves.

The extra is the folk version with a different tune mentioned in the note.
