Stuff and Nonsense

Common Terns doing their thing

My plan today was to go to Carr Mill Dam to see the great crested grebes, but, after looking at the map, and thinking I knew where I was going, did my usual trick and went off track somehow. I found myself heading towards Mere Sands Wood, so turned the satnav on my phone on and 15 minutes later, I was there. I'd only been once before in the autumn to see the vast amount of fungi that they have, so was not sure what I'd get today.
Despite the relatively warm and sunny weather there was a distinct lack of butterflies about. But I did get to see blackcaps and chiffchaffs, a nuthatch, a woodpecker a few ducklings and a single great crested grebe and my favourite of the day, a pair of common terns.
They insisted on making out on top of a very dirty plastic drum which was being used as a buoy. Not very romantic or picturesque...but they are nice looking birds.

Will try and do my commenting later this evening but got a lot to do as I'm back in Sweden tomorrow and then we're off to the Lakes on Friday for a long weekend. Hope you've all had a great weekend - mine has been better than expected :)
