Pheasy Boy's Wonderful Wattle

Quite a lot on today and I didn't get out with the camera until this evening. I was delighted to see Pheasy Boy down the field. As you can see the grass is high, I don't let MrQ cut it. Pheasy seemed quite pleased to see me and woo-wooed very quietly.

In my image you can see the detail of his wattle, it's beautifully bright red, highly vascular, textured flesh. A sure sign that he's in top breeding condition and a big turn on for the females. These birds don't mate for life but keep a harem of hens. If they see another male's red wattle they go into attack mode. It has been known for them to assail post office vans. :)
