The Edge of the Wold

Deer watching

It was a day of heavy squally showers when the sun made fleeting appearances. I stopped off in Levens Park today for a change from Dallam. Levens is special for, amongst other things, its herd of black fallow deer and the flock of Bagot goats. Both were showing well today amongst the autumn tints of the many specimen trees.

The Levens deer seem smaller than the usual wild type fallow, there's something almost impish about them in their sooty pelage. I was hoping for a brief showing of the sun to light up the leaves and the little doe watching me from behind the big oak, but it wasn't to be.

Sounds like more of the same this weekend.
