Coming alongside

Since I’m on a cruise, I’ve chosen a nautical moment for today’s blip - our cautious approach to the pier in Kotor, Montenegro. Though it seems quite big enough for me, the Silver Whisper is small enough to do this; you can see on the other side of the pier the tenders from two larger ships moored further back in the fiord. Apparently this bit of sea is a flooded ravine; it’s most dramatic and has me out in my nightie at 6.30am taking photos as we first entered it after our night sail from Hvar.

So far today I’ve visited 5 churches, including 2 cathedrals, and got very hot indeed. The old town is crushed in under the steeply-rising mountainside and contained by an ancient wall. And yes, it was busy - but fascinating and picturesque. And the stone of the streets is super-slippery from centuries of feet.
