a boat 'messabout'
`Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING--absolute nothing--half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing,' he went on dreamily: `messing--about--in--boats; messing----' kenneth grahame
~This quote hangs in the Tiki Hut at Lucas Boatworks.
Here you see one of my favorite photos of today's messabout! My husband Steven is on the right in our boat Chelsea. On the left in the Melonseed sailboat Laylah is Helen & Dave Lucas and Judy, who came from S. Carolina to Florida to join us today. (Dave has a big email list that reaches far and wide - even to Australia!). This was the first time I had taken any photos in a while. Instead I've been concentrating on packing for our move Tuesday. Since we are almost all packed up, I said YES! when Steven told me about this messabout.
It was great to get out on the water and feel the breeze, breathing in deep, watch the birds gather and also see them preen their feathers. I enjoyed taking 90 photos!
It was a small gathering of traditional hand built boats and kayaks getting together for fun and meeting up via our boats for lunch at Mar Vista dockside restaurant on Longboat Key which has it's own beach and boat docks. Very convenient and fun! There are lots more photos if you are interested in small boats or what our day was like.
Just one more day to finish packing and then it is moving day!! I know you will understand if my blips are sporadic and my comments uneven and missing. I try to pop in as I can but don't always make it to everyone's journal . . . . sending sunshine and wishing you lots of fun blips! lenna
