Whilst gardening a red moth fluttered by and caught my attention. It sat for some time on a grassy path and was quite happy to let me snap it. I think it's a cinnabar moth happy to be flying around in the sunshine.
It's apparently called cinnabar after the red mineral and lays its eggs on ragwort. The caterpillars feed on this and the alkaloids they ingest make the emerging moth poisonous to predators. You learn something every day!
