Relaxing beside a Leipzig fountain

We arrived in Leipzig yesterday. We're here for performances of Bach cantatas which are part of the annual BachFest and take place in the two churches here which are associated with the composer (Thomaskirche and Nikolaikirche). The trip is one of the sort-of-annual forays abroad which my music group engages in. Nine of us are here, but only one of the nine is going to all the concerts (I confined myself to just 3, one each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

The opening concert of the BachFest was yesterday evening. Food and drink last night followed the concert and made it a long, but very enjoyable, day (our flight to Berlin had been at 7:20 am). Today's concert was at 5:30, which gave Carl and me plenty of time to explore this rather beautiful and very compact city. I had memories of enjoying coffee and cakes in one of the famous coffee houses here and we set out to find that. That café ('due to technical reasons') wasn't open until midday, so we passed the time in another place near this fountain, soaking up the atmosphere and watching the world go by. It was very warm and sunny for almost all of our stay.

After the evening concert in the Nikolaikirche the gang met up for a meal and few drinks.

(Today's extra shows the Thomaskirche, complete with a poster advertising the BachFest.)
