Sea thrift at Mangersta bothy

Today is our last full day on Lewis with Ridgeback13 and walkingMarj. Once again, we have done our best to pack in as much fun as possible.

This morning’s destinations were the Mangersta bothy (where I blipped this sea thrift), the Mangersta gallery, the local whisky distillery (Abhainn Dearg), and Reef beach (modelled by Mr hazelh in the extra). We also stopped off above Cliff beach for a little silliness in striped T shirts.

We mistakenly assumed that the café on the way to Bosta beach would be open on Saturdays, but it was not. This left us with a bit of a dilemma at lunchtime. The ‘solution’ was to stock up on supplies at the post office on Great Bernera. We manage to patch together a strange picnic of rice cakes, sliced chicken, tomatoes, mini Twix bars, and malt loaf, which we ate on Bosta beach. Fortunately the iron age house was open, so we enjoyed (re)learning about the discovery of evidence of prehistoric settlements on the beach in the 1990s and the interpretation of the artefacts unearthed at this time.

It was chef’s night off this evening so Mr hazelh, Ridgeback13, walkingMarj John and I had a night out on the town at Loch Croistan for a delicious home-cooked meal on the red sofas.

Exercise today: walking (12,503 steps)
