When a square is not a square

When is a square not a square? When it's a town square ;-)
Had to go to town for a lunch with a friend and had to do a recce in town for this Friday when I'm organising a study friends reunion. This is our town square, or rather our Grote Markt, the town square with the main cathedral and the old town hall of Bergen op Zoom. Town squares in the Low Countries are often called Markt (market) because this was where the markets would have been held. The open space (now filled with bar terraces for summer) is definitely not a precise square shape, plus there are slight height differences. The planters boxes are squares though !
Thanks to laurie53 for hosting MonoMonday with today's theme of 'square'

Thanks so much for all the great comments, stars and faves for yesterday's squirrel with its strange pose. I have now found out that squirrels do indeed have their young in June/July, so this could well be an expectant squirrel mum looking for cosy moss for her nest.
