Avoiding the heat

It was 85 degrees out when I set off to do some shopping.  I decided to head to Fred Meyer, where there is air conditioning and an underground parking lot.  For those of you who are not from the Northwest, Fred Meyer is a store that sells everything, including food.  You could go there and buy a watermelon, a tee shirt and new cord for your lawn trimmer.  (I bought none of these.)  I've always avoided shopping there, despite the lower food prices, because they are so huge, so crowded, and so lacking in parking space.  But this particular store is new and wonderful, worth the drive to get there.  So I stayed cool and the car stayed cool, and we arrived home to a very warm apartment.

On my way to the store, I stopped by Carkeek Park, where I took this photograph of a plant that caught my eye the other day but which I neglected to shoot.  I have no idea what it is, but I think it is so attractive.
