Life in Sunny Dubai

Got home too late to even think about blipping. As you can see, my blip is of England's win over Colombia. They took us to a nail-biting finish and it was even harder to have two Colombian supporters in our group. [Hard for them, as they were watching with an all England supporting crowd.) It was extremely painful watching the penalties but at last, England have got over their curse of the penalty shoot-out during World Cup matches. Another record has been broken by them, and I can't imagine how Harry Kane's record of the top scorer for this year's World Cup is going to be beaten. Here's a statistic/fact from FIFAs own website:

"0 per cent: that is the conversion rate of England’s No. 8's in their four World Cup penalty shootouts. Chris Waddle, David Batty, Frank Lampard and Jordan Henderson, who all wore the shirt number in 1990, 1998, 2006 and 2018 respectively, missed shootout spot-kicks. The latter’s saved attempt did not, however, prevent England from winning their first shootout in the competition."

I'm thinking... they should get rid of the No. 8, or not send the person wearing that number to attempt a penalty. Easy fix. Better still, ban penalty shoot-outs. They are the most awful way to get an outcome for a match.

No more football now until Friday, so we have a chance to get on with other important things!

In other news, it was an unhurried day with time to catch up with things. We were able to visit a family who has recently lost their mum. Two of the kids were in our Pathfinders group, so it was really great when our friend Suguna asked for company. It was on the other side of town but we managed to dodge the Sharjah-Dubai afternoon rush.
